That’s Habit #5 of Covey’s “Seven Habits.”

Seek first to understand, THEN to be understood. I don’t know about you, but I’ve pretty much gotten that one ass-backwards my whole life.

Me? I’ve been so interested in making sure people understand ME that I rarely slow down and try understand where someone else was coming from.

Do you (also) spend most of your energy trying to explain yourself or do you seek first to understand, THEN to be understood?
